GABRIELLE
Collect interactions which you miss the most about the academy, start to think about what kind of interaction you can design when all the students will be returning to the academy. How will we continue our studies while living within the 1,5 metre society?
A brainstorm regarding the interactions between me & Robin de Haan. We without doubt focussed more on personal interactions.
Our 100 interfaces
The 3 interactions/actions that I chose based on my personal interest and curiosity.
Based on these interactions I started thinking about an interface that keeps changing, where a lot of things are possible. Think about showing actual working spaces that are available during that time or ongoing exhibitions (kind of similar to the poster walls, but then accessable to all people (also the ones just using their phones or the ones sick at home.)
To create an interesting flexible exhibition space where motion design and film featuring is also possible.
This isn't possible in the current WdKA building (or atleast not yet possible)
SOME POSSIBLE USES FOR THIS INTERFACE:
- showing the weather
- showing ongoing exhibitions
- showing room bookings
- showing art related events in the surroundings of WdKA
- showing questionnaires
- showing AV / moving image work
museum exhibitions for example
Improv exhibitions but also AV ones
These photo's are all mine and reminded me of the specific interactions I described
I found this video which shows how the screens on the floor of the school would work with touch screen.
More of the sketches/draft/brainstorms I did in my journal.
For the actual visualising part I started working together with Robin de Haan.
The Robin in Question
Robin designed the more digital part of this interface (how does the interface work, how do you upload posters, how do you create notes)
Her Hotglue
I focussed more on the actual interaction idea inside the school and how this would work inside the school.
Robin focussed more on the actual 'how do you bring a part of the school home', so you're still updated on the events and things happening in the school even when you're home.
Robin created this digital sketch based on our concept. (& based on the images and posters we collected during our brainstorms.)

We also thought about what the interface would look like if someone uploaded a new poster...
So we tried greenscreening Robin putting up a poster, here are some of our attempts
We don't actually have a greenscreen so we improvised.
We tried our best
This one looks the best in our opinion.
I tried visualising how this interactive screen system would look in the school itself.
Together we made this video on how the interface would look when projecting it in your own house (ofcourse you can also open the interface in your browser on your computer, but in order to really bring back the school feeling, projecting is also a possibility.
In this short scene you see a new poster being added (with its animation) and a student working at home, seeing the new update appear on the projection.
These are of course sketches, even though I quite like how the first one turned out
Some sketches I made for the actual interaction in school. What kind of image will appear on the floor once people get too close to each other?
Maybe I'll put a contant circle around each student so people will be more aware of each other's space?
The screens also extend to the coffee machines, where you can add a note or a doodle while you wait for your coffee to get ready.
These are some sketches on how this interaction would work.
Robin also thought of this kind of upload system where you choose different kind of files to upload so there's more clarity.
Together we also thought of a place where we could put notes, kind of similar to the bathroom stalls in the school (which is filled with scribbles.)
I made this gif to explain how the screens would work.
If there were any videos on display on the screens, the circles would only use the outlines, so you're still aware of each others space, but are still able to view the exhibition.
